Hello! I’m Ashley - shopkeeper, interior designer, artist.
I wake up every morning wholeheartedly excited to open my shop. Each day brings a new treasure, a story, and conversations with my community that reminds me I’m exactly where I am meant to be.
I am a trained potter and a skilled Interior Designer. I hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Emily Carr University of Art and Design and a Certificate of Interior Design from BCIT. After 15 years in the design and retail industry in Vancouver, I moved to the Sunshine Coast seeking a rural lifestyle and a place to merge all of my passions including a devotion to a more sustainable way of life.
The shop was opened over a decade ago as ReDecor Consignment by Diane Nicholson, and in 2019 I had the immense joy of becoming the new caretaker of this beloved little store. Truly a dream come true (you can read more about mine and Diane’s story below). More than a designer, I am passionate about merging sustainability and beauty.
I am committed to creating opportunities for local artists to present their work in our community and to reducing waste to ensure the shop keeps its place in the heart of the Sunshine Coast. When I’m not helping customers source the perfect addition to their home, you’ll find me walking my dogs, laughing with my husband, picking up garbage on the beach, and exploring new ways to incorporate recycled materials into my art practice.
Pop by the shop or visit my Instagram feed to see what’s inspiring me today, and how to bring that same inspiration into your home.
How it started: Diane + Ashley
Do you know that feeling when you look back at the trajectory of your life and see how every little piece was leading to one moment? That’s how my story of being the caretaker of this little shop feels. Let me share it with you.
In the late summer of 2018, my husband and I picked up and moved to the Sunshine Coast. We were craving ocean air, connection to nature, and space to write the next chapter of our own story. We both believe that we can make a difference through the choices we make in our relationship with the planet whether it be through understanding and caring for trees, like my husband, or re-imagining, reusing, and re-purposing items into something useful and beautiful, which I see as my purpose.
One afternoon while collecting items for a client project, I walked into a crowded and charming little store in the heart of Sechelt. Little did I know that this interaction would change everything.
Over the course of several months I developed a relationship with the sweet, kind, helpful, loving, joyful, and deeply trusting woman who created that store. That woman was Diane.
If you knew Diane, even just a little, you’ll recall her passion for the handmade, for the ocean, for a simple, beautiful way of living. You’ll recall the treasures she pulled from her own collection and others she sourced on the Coast. You’ll recall her smile, her big scarves, and her laugh.
My relationship with Diane quickly turned into a friendship. We shared similar views on design, a desire to cherish pre-loved objects and a passion for handmade ceramics. She soon became one of my dearest friendships on the Coast.
One day, Diane shared with me that she wanted to retire but also didn’t want to let down the people who had come to love and appreciate the store. As soon as she said this, I knew that a dream I’d been holding close to my heart for over 15 years could come true.
And so, a few months later we sat down with an agreement Diane had written by hand and she chose to trust me with one of the most wonderful things she’d ever created. When she told people that the store had been sold, she shared that she knew it would be beautiful, that it would maintain the coastal feel, that she trusted the new owner.
So, on a sunny Saturday in April, we sipped prosecco, laughed, shed a few tears and she handed me the keys. That dream of 15 years has come true.
Diane passed away a few months later and is deeply missed by this community. I feel honored to continue on what she created here on the Coast. I think she’d be proud. There will always be a little piece of her in this place, and I’m forever grateful for what Diane and I co-created in the short time we knew each other.

Redecor + Design is home to a wide variety of refurbished and rescued pieces that have unlimited history and memories embedded within.
Every little choice we make matters. From limiting our use of plastics and other unnecessary packaging to how we curate our homes. Finding ways to move with intention, and infuse beauty into our surroundings helps connect us to each other and to the planet.
Sustainability starts here
It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
